Dear Mr. Rubin:

My opinion is that present chess programming is not sufficiently advances
to make programs that honestly plan in the style of a particular master -
present or past.  Possibly a preference for closed or open positions could
be incorporated in the position evaluation function but this would only
be a step in the desired direction.  As long as chess programs must evaluate
tens and thousands of positions in order to decide on a move, they can't
be said to immitate human play even though they may perform well.
